It was during the tail end of the "Jesus Movement" in 1974 that he had a powerful encounter with Christ in Southern California. Soon after getting saved, he became a leader of a contemporary Christian band called "Silverwind" in the 1980's. He was also the co-writer and co-producer of famous children classics such as "Music Machine" and "Bullfrogs and Butterflies", which sold over 3.5 million copies worldwide and earned Dove Awards and Grammy nominations.

Singer-Songwriter William Matthews is a popular worship leader at Bethel Church in Redding CA and was a featured worship leader for Campus Awakening, a ministry of Jesus Culture. William served for several years as a lead prophetic singer for Misty Edwards, Cory Asbury, Matt Gilman and Julie Meyer at the International House of Prayer in Kansas City (IHOP-KC) and has been a part of worship teams leading for The Call. William also has been a background vocalist for Brian & Jenn Johnson, Suzy Wills Yaraei, Kim Walker, Chris Quilala, Sean Feucht, Jeremy Riddle, and many others. William has a heart to see young people develop deep lifestyles of intimacy, prayer, prophetic, & revival. He currently lives in Redding, CA where he is preparing to record his first worship album, live at Bethel Church.
